Referred from here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/272441/infected/ ~ OB

So basically I was away for a couple of weeks in hospital. When I returned I didn't bother to update/scan with any of my antivirus programs, and after a couple of days I received a virus. My computer rebooted on its own and when I logged back in I saw there was a little icon in the bottom right hand of the screen that's normally not there - a little red dot with a white cross on it. And considering it says "your PC is infected. Click here to download actual antispyware" I'm pretty sure we all know what it is.

Under the advice from a Moderator, we were able to remove it, although most probably not permanently. The little icon is gone although when I've done scans (with a2squared/malwarebytes/avira) something always comes up. On top of that, Avira's guard is DOWN and it wont let me update so considering that's my main defence, it seems I'm really screwed at the moment..

Here's the DDS log:

I'm unsure whether or not to attach the attach.txt and ark.txt files, only because I havn't been specifically instructed to... I'll attach them as soon as someone gives the go ahead.

Thankyou in advance for helping =)

Edit - in case anyone was wondering, I was only told to do steps 6 - 8 by a moderator. If I need to do the entire thing let me know!

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

Thankyou for the reply =) I know it must take awhile to look through all the problems that people have, but I'm just glad I get professional help =)

The problem is still the same (as I desribed earlier) and I still find myself just connecting to the internet to do basic things, then disconnecting.

So here's the new DDS log:

Hello HypNotYzd!,

:( to the Bleeping Computer Malware Removal Forum
, My name is Elise. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

I will be working on your malware issues, this may or may not solve other issues you may have with your machine.

Please note that whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.

You may want to keep the link to this topic in your favorites. Alternatively, you can click the button at the top bar of this topic and Track this Topic, where you can choose email notifications. The topics you are tracking are shown here.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • The cleaning process is not instant. DDS logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happen.
  • Please reply using the Add/Reply button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic.
  • The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply. Only attach them if requested or if they do not fit into the post.
  • Unfortunately, if I do not hear back from you within 5 days, I will be forced to close your topic. If you still need help after I have closed your topic, send me or a moderator a personal message with the address of the thread or feel free to create a new one.
In the meantime please, do NOT install any new programs or update anything unless told to do so while we are fixing your problem.

Please read and follow all these instructions very carefully.
  • Please download GooredFix and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click GooredFix.exe to run it.
  • A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called Goored.txt).
COMBOFIX
---------------
Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:Bleepingcomputer
ForoSpyware
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive.)
  • Double click on Combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, or if you are running Vista, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

In your next reply, please include the following:
  • Goored log
  • Combofix.txt

regards, Elise

Also, after the machine rebooted, the little Windows Security Alert (which is red with a cross) icon popped up in the tray and mentioned a few things. I didn't click onto it (to install things or whatever) because I know I'm not supposed to install anything new.

Hello HypNotYzd!,

CF-SCRIPT
-------------
We need to execute a CF-script.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Click Start > Run and in the box that opens type notepad and press enter. Copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:
File::
c:\windows\Pdetukoge.bin
c:\windows\Phiqexomino.dat
c:\program files\Common Files\ywub.scr
c:\program files\Common Files\dodozopab.lib
c:\program files\Common Files\nytywopo.dat
c:\program files\Common Files\ysazesyn._sy
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Posted Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

In your next reply, please include the following:
  • Combofix.txt
  • Let me know how everything is running now.

regards, Elise

As for how things are running, I'm not sure... My antivirus guard (and basically my ONLY FIREWALL), Avira, seems to be still damaged, the Windows Security Alert is still red and I'm sure that if I ran a scan in Malwarebytes and ASquared I'd find a hell of a lot of nasties still...

Is there anything you recommend Elise?

Please try to turn on Avira (which is not a firewall BTW).

Also, start MBAM, update it first, and run a full scan.

Post me the results.

regards, Elise

I'll run a full scan first thing in the morning =)

Oh... I thought it was? I'm only using it because I had a REALLY old version of Norton Anti Virus so when I got rid of it (because the definitions were as far back as 06!) I installed Avira for some protection. Well I tried, but it won't let me update at all. And the guard status is set to 'unknown' and I have no idea how to fix it. It stopped working when I got those Viruses the first time around.

I will wait for the scan results.

For Avira the easiest thing to do is uninstall it, using add/remove programs, reboot your computer and download /install it again. See if this fixes the Avira problem.

Don't worry, we will put it together in the end :(

Sorry for the late reply, I've been really busy today =(

Now, strangely enough, the scan found NOTHING!! Here's the log:

Also, I removed then re-installed Avira and now it's working fine... Hard to believe the majority of the viruses are gone, but I'm quite sure there's still some lurking within my machine... So, I have Malwarebytes/Avira/A-Squared/SuperAntiSpyware... But I need a new firewall correct?? What should I do? And what other things do we need to do to make sure my machine is clear?

Again thankyou for your continued support =)

Hello HypNotYzd!,

Now, strangely enough, the scan found NOTHING!! Here's the log:

I am glad I was able to surprise you :(

Hard to believe the majority of the viruses are gone, but I'm quite sure there's still some lurking within my machine...

Most stuff should be gone by now. There may be some leftovers and that what we are going to look for now. Also, please let me know if you have any problems left (strange errors, pop ups, redirects...).

Again, sorry for the late reply.

The scan found 2 things, here's the mini log:

C:\Documents and Settings\Maiale\Desktop\Alessandro's Folder\Otha bleep\Internet\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer_Setup_v1.7.4.exe Win32/Adware.ADON application deleted - quarantined
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{C6174862-F908-49C1-A35C-2FA1940B5F23}\RP758\A0119189.exe Win32/Adware.ADON application deleted - quarantined

Now, as for attach.txt, was I supposed to do another DDS run??

Yes, please re-run DDS and post me attach.txt

How's everything running now?

Just so I do it correctly, would you like me to post (copy and paste) the contents of attach.txt, OR would you like me to use the attachment system and upload it?

Sorry for the confusion =(

Also, things seem to be running fine...

Edit - CCleaner (which I usually use to delete old restore points because my computer is MAJORLY lacking space) won't let me remove some of my older restore points. I should have mentioned that BEFORE we ran all these tests it didn't even SHOW the restore points. Now that things are on the mend, I can actually see them, although I cannot remove them. It gives the message "Error 1722: The RPC Server is unavailable"
