I used Bleepingcomputer.com's "Automated Removal Instructions for Security Tool Using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware". It did not prove to be successful in removing Security Tool on my laptop.

(Forgive any faux-pas in this post, because of this virus my laptop automatically shuts down every few minutes to protect itself so I don't have the time to read the extensive instructions.)

As it states in bleepingcomputer.com's description of this virus, "The biggest problem this program poses is that it will not allow you to run any program other than ones required by your operating system. When you attempt to start a program when Security Tool is running it will shut down the program...".
Therefore, when I attempted to perform the first step to the instructions & downloaded the rkill.com program, it downloaded but when I tried to double-click on it in step 3 it...of course...wouldn't run, due to the nature of this virus. Does this solution seriously work for others? I am at a loss.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Thanks for your quick reply!
Therein lies the problem...the virus makes my desktop disappear. Therefore, I can SAVE something to my desktop but it doesn't show up there. When I go from the "START" menu and double-click on the program to run it that way, it won't run, as is the nature of the virus.
All I was able to accomplish was saving RootRepeal to my desktop. I could'nt open it. Nothing happens.

Are you able to get into safe mode w/networking?
Can you access Task Manager?
Ctrl + Alt + Delete
or
Ctrl + Shift then ESC
or Run> type taskmgr click OK

If you can, open the applications window and end all tasks.
Start a new task and type explorer.exe then OK

Bizarre turn of events:

When I booted up this morning, the usual Security Tool stuff didn't pop up, although I still didn't have my desktop icons.
Anyway, Security Tool never popped up and I was able to run MWord...so I double-clicked on the "rkill" icon, it started running & I got my desktop back!! I have no idea why this happened. But YAY

So I continued to run the original Security Tool removal process (using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) I got to Step 7...problem. When I double-clicked on "mbam-setup.exe" and the installation began, I got 2 error messages (that weren't the code 2 errors the instructions warned me about). I got 2 in a row: the title of the first "vbaccelerator SGrid II Control" said "Run-time error '0', the second was titled "Malwarebytes' Anti-malware" and said "Run-time error '440' Automation error". I clicked on the "OK"s & kept going anyway.

However, when I got to Step 9 & tried to double click on the file I downloaded (random file name), I got the same 2 error messages and it wouldn't run the program.

SO. I followed the instructions in your first reply. Here are the reports you asked for:

Thank you for your help. You are earning some serious karma points

It looks like you might be taking them back

You have a very persistent rootkit infection
I recommend reformating and reinstalling the operating system
If that is not an option, please follow these directions:

Now that you were successful in creating those two logs you need to post them in our HJT forum There they will help you with the removal through some custom scripts and programs that we cannot run here in this forum

First, try to run a DDS / HJT log as outlined in our preparation guide:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/

If it won't run, don't worry, just give a brief description and tell them that these logs were all you could get to run successfully

Post them here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/22/virus-trojan-spyware-and-malware-removal-logs/

The HJT team is extremely busy, so be patient and good luck

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
Do not send me PMs with problems that should be posted in the forums. Keep it in the forums, so everyone benefits
