Hi there, I am not sure if I should be posting my combofix log here, but here it is anyway. I am somewhat a computer tech, and tried everything but the kitchen sink to remove a rootkit virus that popped onto my screen and took over my machine. It was the AntiVirus Software PRO popup that leaves you no options whatsoever and it would redirect, hijack and became a huge problem. It had been taking over my mdm.exe, redoing my hosts file, and spoofing/infecting the AVG software, was reforming itself upon bootup, safe mode or not, turned off restore etc, etc, etc., ran numerous anti malware progs and did not go away until I ran combofix. I have XP pro, did not have the latest microsoft updates at time of infection. Had Norton running and Avira active at time of infection. Dont know where I got it. I dont surf porn or sharing sites or anything suspect if you will. Anyway, I have since de-installed all antivirus software and installed ESET NOD32 and made all updates to my machine. It is running nicely. I wanted to share my combofix log to see if anyone could read anything further into possible areas that I should still address or to make any suggestions as to where to go from here. Thank you in advance for your help. Dave

Please note the message text in blue at the top of the Am I infected? What do I do? forum.

ComboFix logs should not to be posted outside the HijackThis forums and then only when requested by a HJT Team member. It is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for general public or personal use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

Please create a new topic explaining the nature of your problem in the Am I infected? What do I do? forum. Describe pop-ups and system tray or desktop icons that have appeared. Explain what is "going wrong" with your computer. Note any tools you have used and their respective results.

If needed, we will direct you to our HJT Preparation Guide.

Thank you for using BleepingComputer as your malware removal source.
