I have been attempting to clean my client's Vista computer for 2 days now. First, SP1 fails to install after appearing to reach completion... 5 attempts. Next, in both IE7 and Firefox 3.0.7, in Google, Ask, and Yahoo searches, search results page comes up, then whatever result is clicked, there is one or more redirects to other random sites or random search collection pages. Some redirects hang half-way. Direct typing or pasting of URL's do not get redirected. BACK button usually returns to original search results page (not always). Redirects occur on 90% of all link clicks from within search results pages.

So far I have used (not in this order)
1) Symantec Endpoint Protection (resident on this computer)
2) Superantispyware
3) Malwarebytes Anti-malware
4) Spybot S&D
5) Ccleaner
6) Killbox
7) Sophos Anti-Rootkit
8) GMER Anti-Rootkit
9) Smitfraudfix
10) ATF Cleaner
11) Combofix
12) CoolWWWSearch.Smartkiller
13) CWShredder
14) Hijackthis

All of the scanners found junk on their first runs, but subsequent scans come back clean. So far, nothing has touched this redirect vermin and the redirects still happen and SP1 still fails to install.

Note: While following the preparation guide for this post, when I attempted to run RootRepeal, but it hit an immediate sudden death error, which allowed a report to be saved. I have had to include this report instead of ark.txt.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
