I was trying to clean up my computer and I Double Clicked on "Uninstall.exe" - I didn't recognize the program and it was on my c: drive - oops. Now I can't even open Solitaire!! What have I done? Every application that I try to open asks me to select a program from the list to open it and when the list appears, there are no applications (not even notepad). This is on my laptop. Is there anything that I can download to a flash that will help me fix this problem?

It was in my C:/Program Files as an individual icon.

I think I would assume malware...an uninstall icon by itself is an anomaly.

The problem is that now if I try to install malwarebytes, it asks me to select a program from the list to open the application and there are no programs. Any ideas?

I've suggested that this thread be moved to one of our malware forums...let's see what they can suggest.

Although the XP forum reflects a wide range of experience and knowledge (IMO), it is not geared to deal with malware issues.

If they kick you back over here, no problem .

Have you tried a System Restore?

Let's see if a few online scans will work

Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner
Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only!
Follow the Instruction here for installation.
Accept the License Agreement.
Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
The scan will take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Also try

You need to use Internet Explorer for this also
