This review from 2007 explains how the base models for dells can vary by nearly 1000.00 depending on choices.
The reviewed unit, AS configured for the review, was about 950.
It could have been ordered with options that brought the price to < 600 or maxed out at 1500.http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-insp...7-32486097.html
Entering the service tag number at the Dell web site will tell you what hardware was in it at ship time.
Also note: Dell historically used the term inspiron for laptops but uses the same model numbers for Desktops. In 2007 it seems they started making inspiron Desktops as well. How they could further confuse their customer base, I would not care to guess.
