Dear Bleepingcomputer.com gurus,

First of all, thank you all in advance for the work that you do for the internet community as a whole, by helping find the remedy to these malicious attacks on our computers. A thousand thanks are still not enough!!

Here's what happened to my PC:
Followed a link from one of my usual blog sites to a funny article..when I noticed that Adobe Acrobat was briefly called, but no file opened, and no Adobe window stayed open. Also saw the red 'x' shield appear letting me know that Windows Firewall is turned off (which it always has been - I'm behind another firewall.) That's when I knew something bad was happening. Then McAfee Antivirus' OnAccess Scanner found:

Deleted C:\WINNT\system32\xa.tmp C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\xpre.tmp Generic.dx!gjx (Trojan)

Deleted C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\a.exe C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\EVENTLOG.DLL Generic Dropper!bek (Trojan)
(did this twice, then)
Delete failed (Clean failed) C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\a.exe C:\WINNT\system32\eventlog.dll Generic Dropper!bek (Trojan)

I am normally able to fix my own PC by checking the Run/RunOnce registry entries on startup, temp folders, winnt, Program Files, etc, by using HijackThis and Malwarebytes in a very limited manner...by only deleted things that I am 100% sure are infections (by timestamp of the file and researching online). I am posting here because I am stumped and want to leave it to 'the pros'!!

I looked in my registry and found a few entries in HKLM/software/microsoft/currentversion/run, one for WINNT\system32\net.net, and another for Windows System Defender, which was also added as a desktop shortcut and in my start menu.

Also noticed that when I would do a google or yahoo search, the results were fine, but clicking the link of the results (one of which was a bleepingcomputer forum post) would redirect to a spam site. I would have to copy/paste the actual link from the search result listing and into my browser directly to properly see the page.

Ran malwarebytes, and found 700+ infected objects, including msa.exe, and some SearchScope hijacker, which was probably responsible for the bad searching. Nothing was familiar on the malwarebytes result, told it to remove its findings.

Ran malwarebytes, found nothing infected, but ran a lot faster than before.

Logged off, back on, ran malwarebytes again, nothing found, grabbed some lunch.

Came back - search hijacking still happening, and said "enough is enough".
(FYI - I have all Malwarebytes logs if you are interested, just let me know)

See below for DDS.txt and see attached for Attach.txt and Ark.txt...

Many thanks in advance!
