I'm not sure what has caused this but my laptop has become so slow on start-up and any time a program is executed, it seems like a rootkit or boot virus may have gotten me. I first noticed this after I tried to update my virus definitions for Avira. I got an error msg, I don't remember what it said but I knew it wasn't good. Then I scanned my computer for viruses and noticed infrequent little beeps from the internal speaker and sounds of grinding gears from the HDD. After fiddling around for a while, I decided it had to be some sort of virus because Ubuntu works great on the dual boot (imagine that)?!?

Anyway, I deleted Avira thinking it would solve the problem but, nope still slower than my 1st 386! I have not installed the firewall at this point because the damage is done and as soon as it's fixed then I'll get that taken care of. I also do not have any anti-virus scanner on at this time because again, the damage is done. I did however do a scan on Dr. Web's CureIt and it found nothing. I'm usually pretty savvy about fixing issues with Windows and the problems surrounding it; but this has me stumped!

I was able to run ATF cleaner, HJT, Rooter, and Combofix, but now can't get in to XP period. Now it loops on start-up and takes me back to the boot screen, not even safe mode works... Am I too late to save my data or will I have to wipe it?

Fortunately, I have logs from HJT, Rooter, and ComboFix IF that helps.

Thank you!
