I recently wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP because I was having some problems and I just needed a clean slate. Everything has gone swimmingly except I've noticed that whenever I put my computer into standby mode I am unable to connect check email using Outlook Express. I have no other problem connecting to the internet (I'm writing this after just having come out of standby mode), and Windows is completely up to date as far as I know. I never had this problem prior to reinstalling XP, so it's obviously connected to that. Can anyone help?

Details: Outlook Express 6, Dell Dimension 4600, Windows XP, cable modem (Toshiba PCX100U).

Thanks!

EDIT: I just tried shutting down OE before going into standby mode, and then opening it again when I resume and it works fine. That's obviously a temporary solution to my problem, but I'm still curious what's causing the problem.

Have you checked the mail server address and port settings?
In my opinion OE6 is obsolete and you should use Mozilla Thunderbird which is better, more secure and free.

Hey, thanks for the response. As far as I know, all of the settings are identical to how they were previously. And I imagine I wouldn't be able to connect at all if that were the problem.

I've entertained the thought of switching to something else, but I've been using OE forever. Even if I get over my fear of change, I'm still concerned about transferring all of my messages, folders and contacts.

Either way, I'm sure there's a driver or update issue here.

When you start Thunderbird for first time, it asks you to transfer setting/folders/mails from OE6 over to Thunderbird.
Also you can choose from Tools > Import to do the same in Thunderbird.
