I have a computer running XP that lost connection to the Internet while running McAfee. The Local Area connection however said it was receiving and sending packets. I suspected the McAfee firewall and turned it off and the connection came back. Then I decided to remove McAfee and install Avast. But as soon as I installed Avast I lost the internet connection again. But in Safe Mode with Networking (even with Avast) the internet connection worked fine. I began to suspect malware so I ran the boot scan in Avast. it found three infected files and quarantined them, all system files, one was kernel32.exe. But the lack of internet connection in normal mode continued. I also scanned with Dr. Web Cureit and Malwarebytes in safe mode but they didn't find anything. I uninstalled Avast and installed AVG but same thing, no internet connection. I don't know what to try next. So I thought I ask in the forums. Thanks in advance.
This is the first time I've asked for help..is there something wrong with my post, no one seems to be replying.
Please help. Thanks so much.
