EDIT (BUT STILL NEED HELP): I think I managed to successfully remove Antivirus System PRO by doing a system restore. I realize you're not supposed to do that, but Malwarebytes wasn't detecting the malware and I wasn't able to find any files with the Antivirus System PRO name in my program files or registry. The malware was progressing quickly and I wasn't able to open many programs or files. Before I did the system restore, however, my computer began spontaneously rebooting itself at random. I don't suspect it's a power supply or temperature issue, since this started yesterday, in the middle of the malware siege. I had this problem a couple of years ago and someone in a similar forum helped me delete a small file and it solved the problem. I cannot remember the file name or extension other than that it was a series of numbers and letters. It may have been a DLL file but I'm not sure. It took us a bunch of rounds to find it, but eventually the person said "delete this" and the problem was resolved.

Another thing I noticed is that my Firefox bookmarks are screwed up. Half of them are missing and I can't add or delete any new ones. Also, because of the system restore, a few of my programs, like Avira AntiVir, need to be updated, which is probably reflected in my log file. Here is a fresh log file:

Thanks. The problem had gotten so bad that I decided to wipe my hard drive and reformat my computer. It was time anyway, since I've had this computer for six years. Things are running smoothly, however I have one problem that maybe you can help with. I usually put my computer in standby mode at night so I don't have to reboot and restart programs every single day. Since I reformatted, I noticed that my Outlook Express, which I use for email and leave open all the time, wouldn't connect to the internet after waking the computer up in the morning (all other internet connectivity was normal). I figured out that if close OE before putting the computer into standby and reopen it when I wake the computer, I don't have a problem. However, Firefox has crashed several times after waking the computer too and, more importantly, I've gotten the dreaded blue screen a few times as well and have had to reboot. It says:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage, etc....STOP: 0x0000008E...win32k.sys...beginning dump of physical memory.

Obviously, I can probably avoid all of this by just rebooting my computer every day, but that's really inconvenient, especially since I'm usually in the middle of projects, etc. and this never happened before reformatting. Here's a fresh log file. Hope you can help!

Hello salvation79,

Since this appears to be a hardware-related problem, I am not able to be of great help here.

Please check all your drivers are correctly installed. To check this, click start > run, type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

Look for any devices with ? or ! in front of them and try updating them (right click > update).

Alternatively, you can post your topic in the Hardware forum here at BC.

regards, Elise

Yes! Sorry, I thought I had replied to you. I ran the device manager and didn't find any errors. I posted in the hardware forum but haven't gotten much help yet. I'll wait some more. Thanks again!

Since this doesn't appear to be a malware problem, I am closing the topic.

If you are the original topic starter and you need this topic re-opened, please send me a PM.

Everyone else, please start a new topic.

regards, Elise
