Can someone help me... I got a Trojan virus and I ran Symantec Antivirus and Spyware/Adware Remover but everytime I log into my Yahoo email account, I immediately get redirected to a search webpage that doesn't have an address, it just says "about:blank" in the web address bar. Hopefully someone can help me fix this. Here's my latest HijackThis scan
Thanks

Hello angelbaby3333 and welcome to the BC malware forum. We have a couple of different infections here so let's take care of the worst one first.

Please perform the following steps:
  • Download Cwshredder.exe and save it to a folder of its own. Start the program and click on the Check for Update button. If an update is available then download and install it. Close the program (do not run it yet).
  • Download SpSeHjfix.zip and unzip it to it's own folder. Do not run it yet.
  • Download CleanUp! and install it. Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.
  • Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
    • Press the Enter key.
  • Disconnect from the net and Close ALL OPEN PROGRAMS.
  • Run SpSeHjfix and click on Start Disinfection.
When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process.
The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder that SpSeHjfix is located in.
  • Now run CWShredder and click on the Fix -> button.
  • Reboot and repeat the above process starting with Step 4.
Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and the log that was created by SpSeHjfix.

Cheers.

The CleanUp program says that I should make back up disks for my computer but I haven't done them in so long that I don't know how. Can you tell me how to create a back up for my computer on floppy disks?
Thanks

Hi angelbaby3333. What backup disks are you talking about? If you want to make a complete backup you would not do it on floppy disks and you would need a backup program installed (ME does not have a built-in backup that I know of). Do you want to make a Startup Disk?

Give me some details on what you are trying to do.

Cheers.

OT,
This is what the CleanUp webpage says:
Please make a backup of your hard disk before running CleanUp! for the first time.
While every attempt has been made to ensure that CleanUp! is bug-free, due to the number of different hardware and software configurations around today, it is impossible to guarantee that it will perform error-free on your particular system. As a result, it is strongly recommended that you make a backup of all important files before running CleanUp! for the first time, or before trying an upgraded version of CleanUp!.

Let me know what I should do or if I should disregard these instructions and I should be fine withtout following them
Thanks

Hi angelbaby3333. There is always a possiblitlity when doing any maintenance to your system that something bad could happen. It is a good idea to backup your entire system regularly incase of software or hardware problems but to do a backup you would need a tape backup unless you just wanted to savew specific files which could be done to a cd/dvd disk.

In this case, you have no way of performing a complete backup anyway so just ignore that message.

Cheers.
