Posted 28 October 2009 - 11:54 PM

I was working with boopme at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/267005/onecare-removed-yazzle-but-i-still-get-nuisance-pop-ups/ and he referred me here. It's probably easier for both of us if you refer to that thread for a detailed description and history of my problems. If you prefer, I can copy/paste them here. Let me know.

Right now I am just getting the error message Attached File  lewiyidi_error.jpg   11.51KB   11 downloads twice every time I open an app and several times whenever I boot up Windows. No more pop-up ads. I guess that means we fixed some infections and missed others.

On a side note, I have enabled email notification of replies, yet I never receive email notification. I already set it to default as such in My Controls and my email address is correct (I received the registration confirmation email). Is there something else I need to do?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi there,

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Are you a bilingual Finn or an American/British expat?

I'm a trilingual Finn :(

How is the system running now?

My system runs fine now, except I still can't get any sound. I had hoped that it would come back when we removed all the malware, but apparently the problem arose from my use of AutoRuns as described here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/267392/need-help-to-enable-soundmax-driver/. I guess I'll re-post my question in the Audio and Video forum now that I know it's not caused by malware.

So am I clean now?

If so, I want to thank you before you have a chance to close this thread. I'm so glad I found this site and that there are dedicated volunteers like you to help fight the scourge of malware on the net. Your help means a lot to me and I just want to make sure you understand that. :(

Hi,

Yes, I think it's better to continue sorting problem on that topic you linked since malware related things should be gone now. Before that, let's uninstall ComboFix though.
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now copy-paste Combofix /uninstall in the runbox and click OK

Thank you for your nice words and hopefully the audio issue gets resolved :(

Oh yeah, I forgot about ComboFix; dangerous to leave lying around. It's uninstalled now.

Thanks again!
