Hello live4snow and welcome to the BC malware forum. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download CCleaner and install it but do not run it yet.

Important
Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted. If it is run from inside a compressed file then the backups are not created at all.
  • Please open My Computer
  • Double-click on Local Disk (C:)
  • Click on the File menu, point to New and then click on Folder. Name the folder 'HijackThis' or 'HJT'.
  • Unzip to or copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder (do not run HijackThis directly out of the sfx or compressed file).
Step #2

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #3

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.shopnav.com/sidesearch.cg...d=11568557&id=0
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.shopnav.com/sidesearch.cg...d=11568557&id=0

O20 - Winlogon Notify: MS-DOS Emulation - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sxsvcs.dll

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #4

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\ttext.dll
C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
C:\WINDOWS\ttupt.exe
C:\Program Files\Aprps\ <--folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\exp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wintask.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vuir3jp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sxsvcs.dll
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\ <--folder
C:\Program Files\Media Access\ <--folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\VBOUNCER\ <--folder
C:\Program Files\AdDestroyer\ <--folder

Now perform a search for these files and delete all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.AUNPS2.DLL
vboauto.exe

Step #5

Start CCleaner and click on the Run Cleaner button in the lower right-hand corner. When it is finished close CCleaner.

Step #6

Reboot normally and run at least 2 of the following on-line virus scans:Bitdefender <<<Add a check by 'Autoclean'.
RAV <<<Add a check by 'Autoclean', leave everything else as is.
eTrust <<<'Cure' whatever is found, then delete if unsuccessful
Housecall <<<Put on 'Autoclean' and delete what it can't clean.
Panda ActiveScan <<<Accept default settings
If there are any files that cannot be automatically disinfected or quarantined then you will need to delete them manually.

Step #7

AdAware SE v1.06

Download, install, update, configure and run a scan with Ad-aware SE v1.06:
  • Download and Install AdAware SE Personal, keeping the default options. However, some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan.
  • Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE.
  • Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.
  • Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window:
    • In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
      • Under Safety:
        • Automatically save log-file
      • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
      • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
    • Under Definitions:
      • Prompt to update outdated definitions - set the number of days
  • Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green:
    • Under Driver, Folders & Files:
      • Scan Within Archives
    • Under Select drives & folders to scan:
      • choose all hard drives
    • Under Memory & Registry: all green
      • Scan Active Processes
      • Scan Registry
      • Deep Scan Registry
      • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
      • Scan my Hosts file
  • Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:

      • Move deleted files to recycle bin
    • Under Logfile Detail Level: all green
      • include addtional object information
      • DESELECT - include negligible objects information
      • include environment information
    • Under Alternate Data Streams:
      • Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
      • Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT
  • Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:
    • Under ‘Scanning Engine’:
      • Unload recognized processes during scanning
      • Scan registry for all users instead of current user only
    • Under ‘Cleaning Engine’:
      • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
    • Under Log Files:
      • Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
      • Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
      • Please do not check: Include Module list in logfile
  • Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.
  • Click ‘Start’
  • Choose 'Perform Full System Scan'
  • DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
  • Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.
  • If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window
  • Right-click on the list and choose Select All
  • Click the Next button to finish removing the items that were found
  • When finished, REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found
Step #8

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

The only problem I encountered was that when I was trying to delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\sxsvcs.dll as shown in your step 4, it said that it could not delete the file because "It is being used by another person or program".

So did I do this right?

Hi live4snow. That looks better but there is still something there and I don't think we are seeing all of it. Let's try a different scanner.

Download WinPFind.zip and unzip the contents to the C:\ folder.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the c:\winpfind\winpfind.exe file and double-click it to run it. Now click the Start Scan button to begin the scan.

When the scan is complete reboot normally and post the WinPFind.txt file (located in the WinPFind folder) back here so I can review it.

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hi live4snow. It looks like there is an l2M infection in there. Let's clean that up.

Print these directions or copy/paste them into a Notepad document and save it to your desktop. Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
  • Download l2mfix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.exe to start the installation.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts.
  • Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #4 for Merge Winlogon Notify Defaults by typing 4 and then pressing the Enter key.
  • Now select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing the Enter key.
  • Press any key to reboot your computer.
After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, Notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Post the new L2m logs back here along with a new HijackThis log and a new WinPFind log and I will review the information when it comes in.

And as for the WinPFind log, when I try to reboot in safe mode, it scrolls through a bunch of things and stops on windows\system32\drivers\btkrnl.sys and will just freeze up. There fore I couldnt run the WinPFind.

WinPFind v1.2.8 - Log file written to "WinPFind.Txt" in the WinPFind folder.
Scan completed on 8/9/2005 5:30:28 PM

When I tried to find the l2mfix all I had was what I previously posted, I tried running it again but it said it was "scanning on its first pass" for about 3 hours. How long is this supposed to take? The first time I did it, I left it on over night while it scanned but my brother turned it off in the morning before I could see it.

Hi live4snow. There is an l2M infection there and the l2mfix is the only thing that can remove it. Normally it won't take longer than 30 minutes for even a very heavily infected machine so running it overnight either means that yo uhave the all-time record or another process is blocking it from working. I'm betting on the 2nd one.

Let's do a sweep with ewido and see what that can remove and then run the l2mfix again.

Download and install the trial version of the ewido security suite. Update the program and then do the following.
  • Click on the Scanner button.
  • Click on the Complete System Scan.
  • If anything is found you will be prompted to clean the first infected file found. Choose Clean and put a checkmark in the checkbox for Perform action on all infections and click the Ok button to continue the scan.
  • When the scan is complete close ewido and reboot the computer normally.
Now re-run the l2mfix and see if it can complete. As long as the hard drive light is flashing the program is working.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop:
  • Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing the Enter key.

Post the following logs:The ewido log
The l2m log
A new HijackThis log
A new WinPFind log

Cheers.

Hi live4snow. That is looking better. Now let's see if we can't clean up the rest. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download Miekiemoes' lqfix.zip and unzip the contents to your desktop. Do not run it yet.

Important
Your copy of HijackThis is still running out of a temporary folder and needs to be in a folder of it's own.

Step #3

Locate the LQFix.bat file on your desktop and double-click on it to run it. A DOS window will open and when it is finished a 'Done!' message will appear. Close the DOS window when it is finished.

Step #4

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = about:blank
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tgoiuc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\tgoiuc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service62] C:\WINDOWS\etb\pokapoka62.exe
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe
O18 - Filter: text/html - {8293D547-38DD-4325-B35A-F1817EDFA5FC} - C:\Program Files\Cas\Client\casmf.dll

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #5

WinXP Show Hidden files/delete files

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\system32\tgoiuc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\etb\ <--folder (it shouldbe gone but check to make sure)
C:\Program Files\Cas\ <--folder
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\RUTASK.job

Step #6

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.
