My Dell Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP started having problems about a week ago. After a Windows update it wouldn't reboot, giving a page fault in no paged area error. I was able to get past this with a retore disk but the computer was running real slow. However, I had to turn off Windows updates as any update resulted in the same problem. Then I started having the search redirect/hijack problem, first with google then with yahoo. I tried to restart the computer in safe mode but that resulted in the blue screen again. I was able to get around that by using the recovery disk again using the file repair utility. I started the computer in safe mode and did a malware scan, then restarted the computer. The redirect problem seems to be gone, but now certain windows are in some sort of an Arabic language (I think), like the wireless connections window, the file download window and a few things on the control panel. I tried to restore the computer to an earlier date but that did nothing to solve the problem. All of the lanuage options are set to English. I think that whatever virus this is is still there, but I don't know how to find it or get rid of it.

  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
