My Ie and FF been acting weird lately, after my family went to some chinese website to download something

apparently it automatically redirects my start page to
http://www.35029.com/ for IE and http://www.ab99.com/?b
for FF, tried loads of suggestions from websites everywhere but none work

tried disabled ctfmon.exe (it no longer shows up on taskman), Adaware and ESET scanned (updated) clean, but still doesnt work

DDS doesnt produce any logfiles, even though firewalls and AV+Adaware been off

heres the related root repeal log and HijackThis log, if anyone require any more details just tell me

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

urm, I might have forgotten some of the steps i taken since it's quite long since then

I'll repeat my problem, my IE8 and FF autoloads a chinese web site on browser startup, even though homepage is set to google, pressing the homepage button still takes me to google though, and it only affects browser startup, starting a new tab wont have the same problem, links are on the first post

I've tried full scan with updated eset smart security, scanned with updated ad aware, resetted IE settings, cleared temp files, tried removing weird files from startup, deleted suspicious files while manually checking my HDD, tried using System repair engineer to do diagnostic, also with HJT, still can't find anything weird.

Hi Reyvan,

Please download the attach file(Fix.reg) to your desktop and close all programs including IE. Double click it and an information box will pop up asking if you want to merge the information in the file into the registry, click yes.

Now, please delete any shortcut icon of IE or FF and including the IE icon in quick launch toolbar on your desktop. If you have problem to delete that fake icon, then please do the following:
  • Right click on the desktop and select properties
  • On desktop tab click Customize Desktop
  • On general tab, click Clean Desktop Now icon
  • Desktop clean up wizard will prompt, select the fake IE icon, follow the prompt and Exit the Wizard.
Note: If a folder called Unused Desktop Icons created on the desktop with the fake IE icon in it. Delete this folder and press F5 to flush the desktop.

After that, please navigate to D:\Program Files\Internet Explorer folder, right click the iexplore icon send to Desktop(create shortcut). and do the same with Mozilla Firefox folder.

Let me know how things went.

Hi Reyvan,

Glad to hear your IE is back to working order. :( As to your HDD problem, can you specify what problem you're experiencing now?

well awhile ago, while I was accesing my secondary HD, some files, when I clicked, showed up drive not formatted prompts, but some others still work though

tested rebuilding boot sector with testdrive, fixing the boot, repairing the MBR with partition doctor, still doesn't work

Hi Reyvan,

It seemed that you had some bad sectors on your hard drive. I don't think i can give you any advisable solutions right now. Please go to following threads to get some helps.

Other than that, if you have no remaining issues on your pc, let's do some tidy up and we can send you on your way. :(

Please delete all the tools we have used. Now that your system is clean, kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

  • Update your antivirus programs

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system. You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
    Secunia Software Inspector
    F-secure Health Check

  • Update java- Older versions Java have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
Uninstall the old java--Java™ 6 Update 13--via Add/Remove Programs and install the newest version--->jre-6u17-windows-i586-p.exe

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"
Read some information Here how to prevent Malware.

Glad to be of help. Safe surfing!!
