I don't know the reason, but all of a sudden the icon for a word document that I had on my desktop has changed to an icon that is associated with a different file on my desktop, even though the file association hasn't changed, and the file still opens as it should when I click on it. I used Goback to revert to a previous time and that worked fine last night, but today that same word file has changed to yet another icon from a different file that was used from my desktop since reverting the drive.

(Sorry if I'm not explaining this very clearly)

The only recent changes were that I downloaded a free game (video poker) from downloads.com. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mary

Have you rebooted and is the problem still there?

I rebooted as you suggested and the icons were back as they were originally.

Makes me feel like a real dummy that it was so simple.

Thanks again,

Mary

Don't be surprised if this happens again.

I have had this problem from the initial month I bought my laptop (3yrs ago). I have no indication of a cause, there is no rhyme or reason when it happens.

I heard this was a glitch with WinME, perhaps XP also? Never had it on 98 or 2000.

Rebooting helps but is not practical at times.

If you find a solution post it please, i will do the same!

cheers

Dont feel bad. There are times that the easiest answer are overlooked.
