hello,

I need urgent help. we got a new DSl connection and surfed the net without problem the first day. there was no active antivirus on that day. and there after there is problem. thereafter i scanned the computer with VirusRemove, activated Ad-Aware 6 and have AntiVir active all the time.

Problem1:
AntiVir keeps popping up with a warning of worm in dxdmain. that is in wondows-system32. it can't be deleted. I have tried many times! The AntiVir is also instructed to delete it but it does not go.

Result:
internet is slow and the computer goes into a hang every now and then.

Problem2.
I have a got a DSL connection from a private company. It does not allow me to activate windows Firewall. How do I do it? I have tried to 'change the settings of the internet connection' but the dialogue box just does not open. I have checked the settings of the internet provider also and it has not option for firewall activation.

Problem3.
There are far too many pop ups (specially internet popups asking me to download antivirus programmes). They look like windows warmings but when one reads them carefully, one realises that they are nothing but advertisements. When I increase safety level to reject cookies my internet connection does not work!

I have Ad-aware 6 and antivir. Do I need anything else to protect my comp?
WHAT DO I DO?

Many thanks to anyone who helps!

If you think you are infected submit a hijackthis log here.

How to submit a hijackthis log

Download Hijackthis

Try running the following from safe mode Sysclean you'll also need the virus template file from here lpt***.zip

or

DrWeb CureIT

Also try installing and running A2 Free and Ewido

I'd also run Spybot and Adaware

If your using Win2K/XP run adaware/spybot from "safe mode with command prompt"

At the C:\ prompt type the following:-

cd\
C:\progra~1\spybot~1\spybotsd.exe /autocheck /autofix
cd\
C:\progra~1\lavasoft\ad-awa~1\ad-aware.exe

If your after a firewall my advice is get a 3rd party as the windows inbuilt one is pretty poor.

Here's a list of free firewalls, although most do offer paid for versions as well.

Kerio (Kerio Personal Firewall is FREE for home and personal use) - http://www.kerio.com/kpf_home.html
Outpost Firewall (version 1 is free) - http://www.agnitum.com/download/outpost1.html
R-Firewall - http://www.r-firewall.com/
Securepoint Personal Firewall & VPN Client - http://www.securepoint.cc/en/products-pcfirewall.html
SoftPerfect Personal Firewall - http://www.softperfect.com/products/firewall/
Sygate (FREE for personal use) - http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm

Hi,
I ran the adware from safe mode. also VirusRemove. It got removed! But when i started comp back in normal mode and went on the net, the dxdmain was back! What do I do?
I will download firewall and spybot too. Will this also protect me from the irritating pop-ups?
Thanks for your help.

Post a hijackthis log in the correct section of the forum, somebody will look at your log and help clean your PC and remove all infections.
