Hello! Thank you guys for volunteering your time to help people diagnose and fix their issues. Here are some of the issues affecting my grandparents computer:

1)On start up, 2 errors pop up (see images).
2)Upon opening internet explorer (I know, I will advise them of other options) the browser gets redirected to search.gugle.com (which redirects further to a number of different pages).
3)Computer in general is slow (could be the celereon 2.4ghz and 512MB ram, but it shouldn't be this slow.
4)Certain sites (safer-networking.org for one) are blocked from being viewed, also spybot is blocked from updates needed to even install the software.
5)The task manager window is not normal (see image). There is no title bar for the task manager.

I have viewed the before you post topic and hope I have taken the appropriate steps. Also attached is the attach.txt file from DDS.

Here are the two errors:

And here is the unusual task manager:

Here is the DDS log:

Hi,

Download ComboFix from here

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
Posted Image
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt log in your next reply, together with a new DDS-log.

Hi superbird, thank you for the response. I am on the east coast at my grandparents until the 24th before I fly home back to the west coast, hopefully enough time to troubleshoot these issues. I appreciate your help!

Hi,

1. Open Notepad.
Copy this code into the Notepad-file:

Driver::
MsSecurity1.203.2
File::
c:\srid.exe
c:\windows\Tasks\System Restore.job
c:\documents and settings\glenn\schosst.exe
Dirlook::
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\11018594

Save the file as CFScript.txt

Now drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Posted Image
ComboFix will restart.
When ComboFix is finished, this could be after a reboot, a logfile will open.
Post the contents of that logfile in your next reply.

2. Go to Virustotal.com
Upload the following file by copy/paste the following (so do not use "Browse"!)): c:\windows\UNDPX2A.exe
Wait untill the results appear, and post them in your next reply.

Do this also with these files: c:\windows\system32\drivers\Sacm2A.sys
c:\windows\UNDPX2A.sys
c:\windows\system32\emptyregdb.dat

3. Please post a new DDS logfile, together with the logfile from ComboFix and the results from VirusTotal, and tell me which problems you still have.

Hi superbird. Things are improving. The 2 errors on start up are gone. With your instructions and the disabling of certain start up programs, the computer is more responsive. The only issue remaining as far as I can see is the strange task manager. I don't know if it is a malware issure, or issue with windows/the computer. It looks exactly as shown in the first post, no tabs for processes, etc. Almost as if some malware does not want me to see the running processes and catch it. Here are the logs you requested.

Update: Task Manager is back to normal.. a simple double click in the upper area returned it to normal. As far as I can tell the computer is running much better. Let me know if you see anything else in the logs I should address.

Thank you superbird for your time!

Hi,

1. Open Notepad.
Copy this code into the Notepad-file:

Folder::
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\11018594

Save the file as CFScript.txt

Now drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Posted Image
ComboFix will restart.
When ComboFix is finished, this could be after a reboot, a logfile will open.
Post the contents of that logfile in your next reply.

2. I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Push Posted Image
