Hello,

Uninstall via add/remove programs next if still present:

Viewpoint
WildTangent
MyWebSearch
Media Access
AutoUpdate
Power Scan
WeatherBug
Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker

REBOOT afterwards

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

After installing AAW, and before running the program.
Please be sure to update the reference file following the instructions here:
http://www.lavahelp.net/howto/updref/

Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan:

Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.

Click the 'Scanning' button.
Under Drives, Folders and Files, select 'Scan within Archives'.
Click 'Click here to select Drives + folders' and select your installed hard drives.

Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the 'Advanced' button.
Under 'Log-file detail level', select all options.
Click the 'Tweaks' button.

Under 'Scanning Engine', select the following:
'Unload recognized processes during scanning.'
Under 'Cleaning Engine', select the following:
'Let Windows remove files in use after reboot.'
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT to allow it to finish.

* Perform an onlinescan with Bitdefender and/or Housecall (check here autodelete) and let it delete everything it is finding.

Post a new hijackthislog and I'll take another look.

Thanks!
Here is the new log:

P.S. I wasn't able to completely uninstal parts of the MyWebSearchbar and Viewpoint. The error that came up said: Cannot Delete, Access is Denied.

Hello,

OK, let's deal with it manually in safe mode then..
You didn't perform the online virusscan. This is really really important though...

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

* Download and install CCleaner
Do not use it yet.

* Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

* Please download ewido:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Let it update, but don't let it scan yet!!

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/.../search/ie.html

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Desktop\MWSOEMON.EXE
C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch <== folder
c:\windows\system32\uudttrum.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mmups.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc <== folder
C:\WINDOWS\bmhyhex.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Access <== folder
C:\WINDOWS\nijgpmhc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\D0CE0C16B1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\E6F1873B.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\system32\D9EBC318C
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate <== folder
C:\Program Files\Power Scan <== folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ms.exe

* Still in safe mode Run Ccleaner and click Run Cleaner (bottom right)

* Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on scanner

* Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
* When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
* Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

* Reboot your system back to normal mode.

Perform an online virusscan as I asked you before.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log together with the ewidolog and I'll take another look.

Hello,
I have done all that you have suggested, all except the online virus scan. This is one of the problems with my internet explorer right now. The security settings are at their default level, but when I need to install ActiveX controls, I click on the information bar and the only option I have is "Information Bar Help." I'll wait to send you my HijackThis log and my Ewido scan report until we figure this out.

Thanks.

Try next onlinescanner: http://fr.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/h...call_launch.php

This one doesn't need ActiveX :thumbsup:

I see a clean hijackthislog, so I assume things are running much better now?

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)
