Have an HP Pavilion DV7-1464NR laptop.

Upon startup, get the diagnostic test message "Hard Drive Failed."

Ordered replacement hard drive.

Received the new hard drive.

Tried to replace the hard drive, but cannot find the current hard drive. Have a pic here:

Tech Support tells me it "should" be under the solid pink section, which is not removable on this system.

I have to return the defective hard drive or will be charged. Any assistance would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Look at the upper right hand side of the photo. See the silver coloured metal cage with round holes in it? That's the hard drive. Remove the three black screws then slide the assembly to the right by pulling on the plastic tab. The HDD is held by four silver screws. Remove these and swap the hard drive.

DKR,

EDIT: Nevermind my comment about the 3rd black screw; we got it out. The tab was supposed to have the 3rd screw in it, but did not.

We're about to fire it up.

Thank you for your assistance!

DKR,
It looks like that did the trick. Setup took several hours for the recovery disc to run its course.

Thanks again for your help.
