Hello All, and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Recently I discovered that when searching on Google I would be randomly redirected to various trash websites. At first I just thought I was just clicking bad links, but I realized that even clicking known sites (wikipedia pages, att.com, and other things) it would sometimes send me to trash as well. It doesn't happen if I type the address into the bar manually, only when I click on links in google, and it doesn't happen every time, only 1 in maybe 5 times. But often enough to drive me up a wall. This only happens on Firefox and IE, I haven't had the issue when using Chrome.

Possibly related, in my attempts to discern a problem I found that attempting to restart in Safe Mode only resulted in my computer to get to the driver loading screens before rebooting and starting over again and again. This is supremely concerning to me. I assume it isn't directly related to my first problem, but I can only guess its a larger problem.

Finally, while having all this fun I managed to get hit with Windows Police Pro. -_- What a fantastic little program that was. I managed to destroy it with some luck, but I fear its remnants might be lurking around.

Spybot and AVG don't return anything, and neither did Ad-Aware.

Hi guys! I had this problem earlier, then in an unrelated incident had to do a system restore and the problem went away. Then the topic was closed due to inactivity. Sorry about not responding to it sooner, I had just moved it and slipped my mind. Anyway, while surfing the internet today I realized, its back. At this point I'm beginning to believe that I deserve this, that's what I get for going to seedy asian video sites...

Anyway, I've got some sort of Google search redirecting bug. When I search something via google, then click on the results I will get randomly directed to some trash site or advertisement. This happens in Firefox and IE, but not Chrome (for whatever reason I don't know) It doesn't happen every time, but every one in three or so. That's all that's currently wrong with my computer, but if you see other crap feel free to take care of that too!

Hi again,

uTorrent

Above listed ones are P2P file sharing programs. P2P downloads are nowadays one of those things that most likely bring infection into the system. My recommendation is to uninstall these (and other if present) P2P file sharing programs.

Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one (9.2) here or get Foxit Reader here. Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader! You may also check free readers introduced here.

Check here to see if your Flash is up-to-date (do it separately with each of your browsers). If not, uninstall vulnerable versions by following instructions here. Fresh version can be obtained here.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleanerę by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

If you use Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

* Go here to run an online scanner from ESET.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is UNchecked.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic, along with a new dds log & a description of any remaining problems
