Window telling me that <swuptmr> has been tampered with and cannot start, it tells me to uninstall and reinstall component, i have no clue where to look for this, it is not showing up in the add an remove section, it shows up in the services window as <started> but when i try to restart it it tells me it cannot be done? how necessary is this component ? do i need to be spending time figuring this out? i have a Toshiba satellite laptop running windows xp pro,

The info I found (for info only-you don't need to use any of the scanners these sites promote)

"swupdtmr.exe is a service installed on some TOSHIBA laptops. It is software update manager program for Toshiba computers. This is a non-essential program. You can safely disable it to save computer resources."
