I'm not sure I'm in the right category in the forum. I've contracted a virus "Antivirus Pro 2010" I've downloaded Malwarebytes Ant-Malware and can start it but before it finishes the scan a window pops up and the session closes down. The message in the window reads:
Error
Microsoft Windows has encountered a problem and needs to be rebotted. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

It won't let me open any program even the add and remove through the control panel.

Mod Edit: Moved from WinXP to AII, added infection name to title - AA

It may be possible to let the computer continue the scan and not reboot in the middle.

If you are receiving a "count down" window with this in it telling you your computer is going to reboot in 30 seconds or less, Click on Start, Run, and type:

shutdown -a

Hit enter or click ok. This may take that window away and allow you to finish your scans.

Hope this helps,

I did as you suggested and didn't reboot but it won't let me open any programs so even if the Malwarebytes was scanning it won't let me open it to do anything. I tried excel and it came up but immediately shut down. As you can guess I have another computer I'm contacting you with.

I can get into Malwarebytes about 9 minutes and it has found 9 to 10 files at that point. Can I stop it and delete them and then restart it?

Thanks for the help. I got the virus out by putting the computer in safe mode. It didn't bring up the virus so I had time to use the software to scan and delete it.
