Virtual Hard Drive image

Is there a way to take a system and make a virtual image of the hard drive, then import this into windows 7 Virtual PC?
So if someone wants to upgrade to a new win7 system they can import the vhd and still have their old programs.

I found SYSINTERNALS Disk2vhd from microsoft worked.
Problem solved.
