Hi, I hope you can help, and apologies if I do anything wrong, as this is my first post.

We used to use Kaspersky, and recently switched to AVG, and this has now picked up the above virus/trojan. I have tried to run the programs as per the 'read this' topic. but my pc won't run the RootRepeal program, it just stalls and freezes the pc. I have therefore attached the log from HJT, and really hope someone can help.

Sory to bump, but problem seems to be getting worse - warnings used to be when I opened a new browser, now about every 10 seconds!! Help please!!!

Hi,

Sorry for delayed response. Forums have been really busy. If you still need help with this do following, please.


Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Download GMER here by clicking download exe -button and then saving it your desktop:
  • Double-click .exe that you downloaded
  • Click rootkit-tab and then scan.
  • Don't check
    Show All
    box while scanning in progress!
  • When scanning is ready, click Copy.
  • This copies log to clipboard
  • Post log in your reply.

Sorry, but I don't take logs by email. What is the problem exactly? Doesn't copy-paste work? Have you tried to attach the logs as attachments?

Hi,

I recommend to uninstall Limewire and other possible p2p file sharing programs installed there. Those with dubious downloads cause risk to your system.


Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

Please ensure you read this guide carefully first.


Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds.txt log.

Hi

Thanks again for your help with this. Combofix carried out the 50 processes, removed about 10 files (including the ones that the virus/Trojan were showing as appearing in) and then removed three folders, and then froze without creating a log. I had left it for about an hour, but it didn't change - it wouldn't let me copy any of the info in there either. I closed the file, and ran DDS again, and have attached.

Please make sure AVG is disabled as instructed in the link above and then run ComboFix again.

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.


Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one (9.2) here or get Foxit Reader here. Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader! You may also check free readers introduced here.



Check here to see if your Flash is up-to-date (do it separately with each of your browsers). If not, uninstall vulnerable versions by following instructions here. Fresh version can be obtained here.


Uninstall these vulnerable Javas:
Java™ 6 Update 3
Java™ 6 Update 7
Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1





Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleanerę by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

If you use Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.


Please run an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner as instructed in the screenshot here.


Post back its report, a fresh dds.txt log and above mentioned ComboFix resultant log.

Hi

I've carried out all the other actions, but when it comes to the Kaspersky Scan, it goes through the update etc, but then comes up with an error message saying to restart it - Error quoted is 'Key has expired' Have restarted several times but with the same result?

Hi,

Let's try other scanner.

* Go here to run an online scanner from ESET.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is not checked.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Post back its report.

Answer also my question about firewall port opening.
