WILL NOT boot in Safe Mode!!

I've got some issues with my desktop PC that have me going :thumbsup: I'm assuming its infected with malware, trojans, etc...

Can't access the Internet with either browser IE Explorer or Firefox. I try to boot into Safe Mode but when it starts to do its boot, it then crashes and re-starts the system every time. I can only boot in Windows normal mode (Windows XP). I cannot run either scanner - Spybot S&D or Malwarebytes. When I try, I get the error message,

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

I'm logged in as Administrator with all permissions so I don't get how I keep getting that error. Also, I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Malwarebytes. I can then start the program and it puts me at the program start screen, but when I click on "Scan", it begins its scan and then crashes....everytime. Then when I try to restart the program, I get the error message mentioned above. Same thing with Spybot S&D.

All help greatly appreciated. I do have access to the internet and any downloads I may need with my laptop - Windows Vista.

Hello, first I am moving this to the Am I Infected forum from XP...

It looks like there is a rootkit variant in this log. The rootkit itself is a protection module used to terminate a variety of security tools by changing the permissions on targeted programs so that they cannot run or complete scans. There are some new variants of rootkits in the wild right now that will require custom scripts to remove the infection, the process must be completed by HJT team members or above.

Failure to follow the proper removal process can and will cause serious damage to a machine. Recovery of the machine may be difficult, if not impossible.


Download this Utility and save it to your Desktop.
Double-click the Utility to run it and and let it finish.
When it states Finished! Press any key to exit, press any key to close the program.
It will save a .txt file to your desktop automatically. Double-click on the Win32kDiag.txt file that is located on your Desktop and post the entire contents of that log as part of the reply in the topic you will create below..

Next please go here HijackThis Logs and Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal ,click New Topic,give it a relevant Title and post the above Win32kDiag.exe log.

Hello,

Now that you have posted a log here: you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

Please be patient. It may take a few more days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.
