I've been getting random crashes and can't seem to figure out why. I ran the debugging utility om hopes someone can help me out. Most crashes occur during online gaming. This is my 2nd video card and I've replaced the Ram, and have recently bought a new hard drive. Also when I turn on my computer it beeps. It's one beep, pause, and 3 short beeps. Is that a Ram problem??? It's done that for the last 2 years I've owned the pc and the person who built it said it was normal???

Here's my PC Specs:
MSI K9N4 SLI-F AM2 NVIDIA nForce 500 SLI MCP ATX AMD
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor
mushkin 3GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 PC2 6400
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAKS 320GB

I don't understand what it says below. Not even sure I did it right. Hopefully someone can help cause this is driving me insane. I'm getting ready to trash the comp and start all over. Thanks in advance.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000060, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000001b, IRQL
Arg3: 00000001, bitfield :
bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: 81ce65ae, address which referenced memory

Although the Bugcheck comes back with Vista_Driver_Fault, I'm not convinced that is the problem.

The first thing that gives me pause is the beep code you're referring to. Your machine should have an AMI bios and with that the 1 long 3 short beep code is: "1 long, 3 short Memory test failure A fault has been detected in memory above 64KB"

Your memory in your computer is not passing the initial BIOS test upon bootup. Now, this can occur for more than one reason. The first and most obvious is bad memory. As you've replaced the RAM once already, we can "somewhat" rule that out for the moment. The second and not very obvious is dust or contaminants on the contacts of the memory sticks where they insert into the memory slots on the motherboard. Shut your computer down, disconnect the power and make sure you're grounded before opening your computer. Once open, remove the memory from all slots and take a can of air and blow the slots out on the motherboard itself. Check the contacts on the sticks of memory for cleanliness and once again reset them in the motherboard "firmly".

If you once again get the beeps, I would next recommend a full test of your memory. Go here and download memTest86+. Run this on your computer and allow it to make a complete pass on your memory. If it comes back that your memory is good and has no defects, you have only 2 other options.

1. Your motherboard is defective and was from the day you bought it. The defective part is most likely the memory controller.

2. Your processor is bad or has overheated at one point or another. ( this part is usually unlikely but a possibility )

Hope this helps,

I had a feeling that it may be the motherboard since I've replaced just about everything else besides it and the processor. I'm going to clean it out and run memtest again. If it does it again then I guess I need to start shopping for another board. Thanks for your help.

I was reading up on the post beeps and decided to try something. I unplugged all my USB devices, turned on the computer, and there were no beeps. I then plugged them back in 1 @ a time and as I added them and turned the computer on, the computer would beep and the lights on whatever device was plugged in would turn on. 3 Beeps= Keyboard, Mouse, and Printer. I also ran memtest again, and it found no errors. Idk, I'm still thinking mobo problem, cause I would have random crashes like this when I ran XP Pro as well. I've had 2 different video cards, an ATI Radeon Saphire X1950XT and the current one I'm running, EVGA GeForce 8800GTS. The computer isn't overheating when playing games, I've been watching for that using CPUID. If the processor was bad would it cause crashes or just not work period?

To be very honest, after replacing the memory and the video cards, I would replace the motherboard.

After having these problems, replacing the memory, same problems, replacing the video card, same problem, beep codes from day one, and watching CPUID for any heat problems, you're basicly left with the motherboard.

If the processor was bad, it can give these sorts of errors but they normally only show up when the system is under high load or is overheating. Yes, some gaming is considered a "high load" but my gut says "bad motherboard from day one".

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm just going to order a new mobo.
