Hi,

This is not an actual function problem, but something that looks very suspicious....

I am running Windows 7 beta (build 7100) with Avira free and Comodo internet security (firewall only).

This morning, I saw a CIS message advising me that a dll belonging to one of my dvd utilities was trying to use rundll32.exe. I thought it odd since I hadn't run that particular utility in several weeks and had rebooted many times since then, so I knew it wasn't something that still happened to be running...

When I went into CIS defense+ events, I saw that approx. every 2 minutes since 12:30a this morning right up until I started using the computer at 7:02, a different exe or dll either tried and succeeded or failed to create process/execute image using \windows\system32\rundll32.exe. Interestingly, it stopped as of the time I unlocked the screen saver. I can provide screenshots of this if it will help.

This is pretty concerning since I have neither started nor am actively running any of these programs. Something is starting these programs and trying to use them to do something else with rundll.exe.

Below is the requested DDS log. I have also attached Attach.txt. I can't run RootRepeal because I'm 64 bit.

Thanks in advance for any assistance on this.

-Gary

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
