I was running TrendMicro internet security which came with my Toshiba laptop. It expired and before I replaced it with Norton internet security 2010, I picked up an infection. I noticed an AV Care icon on my desktop and kept getting annoying popups saying I was infected. I uninstalled AV Care on 9/25/09, ran Norton and it identified and resolved many issues. I am still having problems however. Internet opens very slowly at times. Email will work sometimes and sometimes just spin its wheels. Facebook will open slowly. Cannot post notes or pictures on facebook. Still getting hit with a variety of popups - anti-virus, registry repair, web tattoo, etc. I also have windows popup saying a certain file was deleted - unfortunately I did not document what the files were. Below is a list of problems resolved by Norton. I ran it again and did not find anything but problems persist. I ran HiJackThis and it revealed several suspicious entries. I did not want to delete anything without getting advice from experts. Any help you can provide getting me cleaned up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I ran DSS as instructed. Attached below is the DSS file and attached is the attach file. I tried running RootRepeal but an error came up saying it does not support 64-bit OSs.

Hello :(

Install Recovery Console and Run ComboFix

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
  • Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are not sure how.
  • Close any open windows, including this one.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • If you did not have it installed, you will see the prompt below. Choose YES.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Note:The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you
should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

    Posted Image
  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the contents of the log (C:\ComboFix.txt).
Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running.
ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.

Note: Please Do NOT mouseclick combofix's window while its running because it may cause it to stall.

I tried running combofix and received error - Win32 only Incompatible OS. ComboFix only works for Windows 2000 and XP. Same problem I had trying to run RootRepeal. Any solutions for Vista?

Combofix should work in Vista.

Let's do Mbam scan, clear temp files and then new DDS logs :(

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware here and save to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply
    Note:
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Or via the Logs tab when Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is started.
Please download ATF-cleaner and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser:

  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser:

  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Please post Mbam results and a fresh DDS logs :(

Baabiouz,

Ran Malwarebytes as directed. It instructed me to reboot. When I restarted it failed to restart the first time. Got the blue screen but unfortunately I did not write down what the screen said. Restarted second time. Downloaded and ran ATF-cleaner. Below is the Mbam results and fresh DSS log.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Ran OTMoveIt3 as directed with log file attached below. On reboot after moveit error message popped up "error loading c:\windows\system32\fapeyevi.dll could not be found". Downloaded and ran ESET. While it was running Norton Internet Security came up with warning that Trojan.Vundo was removed and required restart. After ESET finished I restarted and then ran DSS. All are attached below. The popups seem to have stopped after running OTMoveIt3. Email seems to be working faster - it would just spin for minutes before. Not sure if totally clean yet but think we are making progress.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello :(

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please click HERE to download Erunt.zip
  • Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Did the ERUNT registry backup and the registry edit as directed. Below is fresh DDS. I will be out of town until Oct 12 and will not have access to this computer. I will pick back up at that time as it looks like I might still have a problem. PC is running better and still no popups. Thanks again for your help.

Hello

Please reboot into Safe Mode by continuously tapping the F8 key as soon as the computer begins to boot. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

In safe mode please run again fix.reg and then reboot back to normal mode. Then post a fresh DDS log back here :(

Thank you for your response. Sorry I did not reply sooner. I never received an email notifying me you had posted a response on Oct 9. Every other time I received an email when you posted.

I ran fix.reg in safe mode and rebooted. Here is the fresh DDS file.

Thanks

Hello

Regfix didn't work :(
Let's try with OtMoveIt.

OTMoveIt3
  • Open OtMoveIt3
  • Copy and paste the lines in the code box below into the input field at the bottom left corner:
    :processes
    explorer.exe

    :files
    c:\windows\system32\famuheno.dll
    c:\windows\system32\vibekawa.dll

    :reg
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\browser helper objects\{6b86e065-14a9-481c-a6d9-cab1a5b0e331}]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6b86e065-14a9-481c-a6d9-cab1a5b0e331}]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "hezebohin"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
    "AppInit_DLLs"=""
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad]
    "honezuzis"=-
    "relaganat"=-
    "sezelagat"=-
    "vataboyay"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\SharedTaskScheduler]
    "{c60afcae-cebe-43bf-a3c3-c2b217b48b00}"=-
    "{483a3304-a189-4c01-bd80-ce348f75624}"=-
    "{c7af8011-9819-4d11-b2c5-364d45c62da4}"=-
    "{a505b222-0348-452d-83de-d93bf9ce0f1c}"=-

    :commands
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
  • Now click the red button that says MoveIt!
  • To the right, the results show up. Copy and paste them all into a notepad file and post the notepad file in your next reply.
Reboot your computer and post OtMoveIt results and a fresh DDS log back here :(

Hello,

I think we are making progress; but it looks like a few undesireables are still present. I ran OTM as directed, rebooted, and ran DDS. DDS file is posted below. Attached is OTM results. Last night Norton scanned and found a trojan.vundo. I let Norton try to remove it. Also attached is Norton output just so you have the complete story of what has happened since the last post.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello

Let's try run Combofix again.

Install Recovery Console and Run ComboFix

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the contents of the log (C:\ComboFix.txt).
Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running.
ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.

Note: Please Do NOT mouseclick combofix's window while its running because it may cause it to stall.

I tried running combofix again and received the same error as last time - Win32 only Incompatible OS. ComboFix only works for Windows 2000 and XP. For some reason it will not run on my computer with windows vista.
