Windows Vista Service Pack 2 issue

I have a pc that had an update for vista service pack 2 that somehow failed and is stuck reverting back a previous configuration and we have no idea what to do. Please help lol.

you can try system restore

but vista sp2 is a big update and system restore may damage the computer(software not hardware )

wait for people to comment about what am saying( i still use old win9x and linux so i dont know to much about winnt os)
