I am uncertain that this is the correct forum, but here goes.

I have a Dell Latitude C840 that has a stick and touchpad that doesn't seem to work. (XP/3). I d/l-ed the Alps Driver; the computer (Device Manager) indicates that the driver is installed, but the pouch pad doesn't work.

In the Device Managed, the mouse icon is 'greyed' but the Alps choice can be highlighted, if that means anything.

I am at a loss for this loss of function. All my other Dells have touch pads that work well.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

On some Dell's it can be disabled in the BIOS; on some others there is a Dell utility which will also disable it. Or, it could be unplugged or broken. The connector is under the keyboard and pretty easy to get to.
