Hi there,

Within the last few months the speed of my computer has rapidly decreased. I have no idea how or why this may have occured. I have now tried all suggested advice on the other topics/pages of this forum and have been adviced to post a Hijackthis report here. Topic referenced is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/259644/bitdefender-found-problems-but-cannot-delete/ ~ OB Another user said they saw things which worried them...?

Please find my report posted below:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

============= FINISH: 22:24:57.20 ===============

So far I have completed all recommended steps found here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/259644/bitdefender-found-problems-but-cannot-delete/

As suggested, I have used:
  • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
  • ATF Cleaner
  • SUPERAntiSpyware Free
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Also, defragged and tried to clean up any disk space (this was done before I posted any thread here, just so you know I havent made any changes since posting the log at the top tof the page)

Hi again,

There are some signs of P2P file sharing programs. P2P downloads are nowadays one of those things that most likely bring infection into the system. My recommendation is to uninstall such programs.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
c:\windows\system32\DROPPEDFILEOK2.tmp
DDS::
BHO: {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - No File
BHO: {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - No File
TB: {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - No File
EB: {32683183-48a0-441b-a342-7c2a440a9478} - No File

Save this as
CFScript

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one (9.2) here or get Foxit Reader here. Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader! You may also check free readers introduced here.

I have also uninstalled any p2p software I had and updated my java as suggested.
Unfortunately there still seems to be no improvement in speed and performance.

Thanks again

Hi,

Delete C:\Rich\Programs\AVICodecPackPlus220.exe file.

Some speed improving hints can be found here.

hi,

thanks for the link.
from what you can see in the above log, does my computer appear to be clean? it's just a case of perhaps tidying files up etc to try and improve speed?

Yes, to me things look better there. I didn't give other instructions yet cos wanted to see if those performance improve hints worked.

Anyway, you may uninstall ComboFix now:
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now copy-paste Combofix /uninstall in the runbox and click OK
