Do you have a secure network set up at you house? You'll have to put in the network key in order to get back on the internet with the new OS install.

Device manager only reflects the apparent status of a device.

But if you did not configure that device for functioning (e.g., a wireless lan)...then DM can reflect that the device is set up properly...but the user has not set it up properly for use...same with a hardware NIC using ethernet.

Have you gone through setting up an Internet connection, via either of the XP wizards?

One guide, http://support.gateway.com/support/manlib/...344/8508344.htm

Another, http://compnetworking.about.com/od/windows...maticwifixp.htm

Is the wireless LAN reflected as a functioning device in Device Manager?

I don't do wireless, so I can't ask anything more sensible .

Louis

You might try uninstalling...then reinstalling http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/...et_software.htm.

OK,back online! Went to intel.com as you suggested, looked for the software to support the 3945 mini card on my build sheet, put it on a thumb drive and downloaded it to my computer. Should have seen the smile on my face.I don't know why I couldn't get it to work off the recovery cd,don't know much about computers but I'm learning. Thanks! You pointed me in the right direction.
