My internet has been screwy for a week or so. If I leave my computer on for a few hours without using it, everything times out when I try to access the internet.
Also, when I restart, I get a message from my anti-virus that there's an LSP conflict. I tried following the instructions to fix it, but nothing changed.
I've also run Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Webroot.
I don't think it should make a difference at all, but I use Firefox.

Hello athraen and welcome to the BC malware forum. i don't see anything wrong with the LSP stack but it is odd that IE is set to startup on computer bootup. That can be indicative of malware problems.

Let's run a different scan and look at some things that are not included in a HijackThis log and see what we find.

Download WinPFind.zip and unzip the contents to the C:\ folder.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the c:\winpfind\winpfind.exe file and double-click it to run it. Now click the Start Scan button to begin the scan.

When the scan is complete reboot normally and post the WinPFind.txt file (located in the WinPFind folder) back here so I can review it.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

IE doesn't open or anything when I start up.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [lexplore] lexplore.exe
That is an L, not and I... I just noticed that. A search said something about Bropia Worm and Sodabot Worm. Could that be my problem?

Hi athraen. Let's check out a couple of these files. I think you may be correct in that the Lexplorer.exe is bad. The other file is pavwait.dll. I think that that is a part of Panda's anti-virus product and might be left-over if it was once installed and has since been removed.

Now perform a search for these files and record the locations of all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

Now go to the Jotti's malware scan page and use the buttons at the top of the page to browse to this file(s) on your hard drive to submit for a scan:Lexplorer.exe
pavwait.dll

Several scanning engines will be used to check the file for any threats. Please post the results of the scans back here along with the locations of these files.

Cheers.

So I did the searches for the files, and nothing came up. So obviously, I couldn't scan them.

If the HJT scan found the file, but the search didn't, is it actually on my computer?

Hi athraen. Well that's interesting. Let's fix those entries in the log and see what happens.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lexplore] lexplore.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [lexplore] lexplore.exe
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: PAVWAIT.DLL

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.
