Thanks for looking and hopefully helping.
Toshiba satellite laptop with 32 bit Vista. I downloaded and installed CA security suite from Roadrunner. It apparently conflicted with something else. My screen froze. Rebooted and no internet connection (currently in safe mode with networking), all programs "not responding", 20 to 30 minutes to send a shortcut from desktop to recycle, only shuts down with power button held for 5 seconds, I had no other antivirus installed but did have Superantispyware, and Spybot s&d running. Contacted CA, they finally got theirs uninstalled completely. Restored back 6 days. now have internet (locks up a lot) but the icon in the taskbar has a red x for about 30 minutes before showing connection. Cannot even use task manager. "unable to create security profile" or something close to that. Ready to backup and flush system but it also will not recognize my portable HD. It does show up in "MY Computer" I can manually move the files but Maxtor manager says "no devices connected". Everything is very veerry vvveeerrry slooooowwww. Please Help if you have any ideas.
Thanks very much, Jeff

Do you use Spybot's Teatimer function? Disable it

TeaTimer works by preventing ANY changes to the system.
  • Open SpyBot Search and Destroy by going to Start -> All Programs -> Spybot Search and Destroy -> Spybot Search and Destroy.
  • If prompted with a legal dialog, accept the warning.
  • Click Posted Image and then on "Advanced Mode"

  • You may be presented with a warning dialog. If so, press Posted Image
  • Click on Posted Image
  • Click on Posted Image
  • Uncheck this checkbox:

  • Close/Exit Spybot Search and Destroy
