When I try to run either program my system flashes to what appears to be a DOS window that is completely black.
The file name that flashes in the blue bar is this:

windows/system 32/desot.exe

The window does not stay open it quickly flashes then disappears

The same thing happens when I try to enable the windows firewall in my control panel when I try to click on security settings.

Once specific occurrence I am also seeing is I try to go to forums on your site for example and I get looped to google and this appears as the
address it goes to:
http/join2623.sslbillcheck12.com/signup.cgi?ver=4&aff=1241

and says page not found

I am unable to provide a screen shot but Windows Antivirus prod window denying internet access to the program pops up saying internet explore is possibly injected with worm backdoor.win32.hupigon.fixn. Then it says the attack took place in whatever site I am currently in . For example it is saying the attack took place at bleepingcomputers.com.
This event takes place prior to the looping error to google.

Any direction or help would be appreciated
Thanks
Connie

Lets see if we can get some sort of log produced

Please download Win32kDiag.exe by AD and save it to your desktop.
alternate download 1
alternate download 2
  • This tool will create a diagnostic report for me to review.
  • Double-click on Win32kDiag.exe to run and let it finish.
  • When it states Finished! Press any key to exit..., press any key on your keyboard to close the program.
  • A file called Win32kDiag.txt should be created on your Desktop.
  • Open that file in Notepad and copy/paste the entire contents (from Starting up... to Finished! Press any key to exit...) in your next reply.

    --------------------------------------
Go to Posted Image > Run..., then copy and paste this command into the open box: cmd
Click OK.
At the command prompt C:\>, copy and paste the following command and press Enter:
DIR /a/s %windir%\scecli.dll %windir%\netlogon.dll %windir%\eventlog.dll >Log.txt & START notepad Log.txt
A file called log.txt should be created on your Desktop.
Open that file and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

I am still having the same problem. I am able to save the file to the desk top. But whenever I try to run anything, including going to start and using the run command it goes to the black screen with this file heading

windows/system 32/desot.exe

The screen wont stay up long enough to give me a c:/prompt to copy the file to.

Okay finally actually typed the word in "command" in the run program and it took me to dos I was able back up from a user directory to the c:drive and copy the link this is what happened

It opens up note pad and then says the system cannot find the file.

We need to create an OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on otl.exe and rename it to tatertot.scr
  • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTListIt.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized

I rename it tatertot.scr But then when I go to run it, the actual filename in the file name changes the file to
tatertot.scr.exe and then causes the same problem.
When I right click on the program on the desk top it still shows tatertot.scr
It also shows tatertot.scr if I go the long way and look at the file under MyDocuments/Desktop.

Okay I got the scan to work by changing the file ext to scr, before I saved it to my desktop. So I was able to get the scan to run and complete, but the black screen of death popped up again and didnt load the report it just closed without saving the report.

Please download SREng2 (System Repair Engineer) and save to your desktop.
  • Create a new folder on your hard drive called Sreng2 (C:\Sreng2) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this. Vista users refer to this link.)
  • Open the folder and double-click on SREngLdr.EXE to launch it. (If you are using Vista, please right-click and select run as administrator)
  • Select Smart Scan from the left pane.
  • Leave all options checked to include Verify the digital signature of process modules (default).
  • Click the Scan button at the bottom right corner.
  • Please be patient as the scan will take a few minutes.
  • When the scan is complete, click on the Save Reports button to save the SREngLOG.log to the SREeng folder (C:\SREng) or your Desktop.
  • Click Close and exit SREng.
  • Copy and paste the contents of SREngLOG.log in your next reply.
Note: The log can be long and you may need several posts to post all of it. If you're using a custom HOSTS file, edit out the HOSTS File section, as it will make the log too long for posting.

Rename the name not just exe to scr
Do you have any real-time scanners running like Spybot's Teatimer function or Norton 360

Try this one:

  • Please download System Repair Engineer from here
  • Unzip/extract sreng2.zip to a folder on your desktop
  • Double-click on SREngLdr.EXE to launch System Repair Engineer
  • Click the Smart Scan Icon
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Click on the Save Reports button
  • Save it to your desktop, using the recommended name of SREngLOG.log
  • Close System Repair Engineer
  • Use notepad to open the SREngLOG.log file
  • Copy & paste the contents of that file as a reply to this topic
  • Note: The log may be long, and you may need several posts to post all of it
  • If you are using a custom HOSTS file, please leave out the HOSTS File section, as it will make the log far too long

Nope when I try to launch the file...it tacks on the exe onto the end. Regardless of whether I change the entire name of the file the extension or both.

I tried leaving the file name intact it didnt launch. I tried changing the file name and ext

example:

repair.scr

When i go to run it...This is what it shows the file name as:

repair.scr.exe

So it is tacking on .exe onto whatever I change it to...then it flips to the browser with a black screen and with the file desot.exe.

Other than reformatting, I do not know what to suggest

Start a new topic in our HJT forum and explain what is happening and what you have tried to run
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/22/virus-trojan-spyware-and-malware-removal-logs/

Send me a PM as soon as you post, so I can add to it and make sure that no one will move it
