Hi Guys,

I have a post up in the Malware forum but I think it is so bad now I would just rather cut my loses and format my hard drive. I have no idea how to do this but am currently moving all valuble files (photos ect.) onto my EXT HDD.

Also I don't have a Windows XP CD. Any help would be very much appreciated. I am pulling my hair out over this one...

HELP! Argh!

You should make a plan before you format. Since you do not have a Windows XP CD, what do you plan to install after formatting the hard disk?
You have some options :

1. You can go for a Linux distro like Ubuntu. In that case, when you install Ubuntu, just choose to take over the whole hard disk.
2. You can buy Windows XP CD. Boot from the CD, when you reach the stage when you have to choose partition. Select the first partition and choose to full format with NTFS.

This way operating system will format your hard disk during installation.

Okay I see, questions...

I don't understand why I would have to buy a XP CD, it is a legit copy that came with the PC?! So anoying!

If I went for the Ubuntu option could you walk me through the process?

Sorry for the questions, this is a process I've never had to go through before.

What hamluis suggested. But you say that your PC is infected with viruses beyond repair and that is why you want to format it. Then there may be a chance that virus may have infected / corrupted XP setup files in any I386 folder found on your system.

If I went for the Ubuntu option could you walk me through the process?
