I removed the stock thermal pad from my CPU and heatsink. I noticed there was a little bit left on the side, where the aluminum takes a 90 degree angle. I tried to scrape it off with a credit card but I don't think I got all of it, but I didn't think it was a big deal as none of the old thermal paste would make contact with the HSF. I'm now thinking otherwise. I'm not sure if it's worth lifting the HSF to do this or not.
