I'm having some problems with a certain account on my Vista laptop (SP1)
when I login (this only affects a single account), explorer.exe steals all of the processing, and can't open drives properly and other explorer related tasks,
almost as if it were infected by a virus, however, other user accounts are not affected (or appear not so), what could be a probably cause?

for example, when I click my computer from the start menu, (during the initial stage of starting explorer -~ could be long after login) it would freeze, leaving the screen with the task menu, and also, taskmgr would be unclickable (clicking on it results in an annoying ding!)

2. Explain your question or problem with as many details as necessary, and always mention the version of Windows Vista and the application you are using. If there are error messages, write them EXACTLY as they appear. Try to include what you were doing when the problem occurred, and whether you made any system changes or new installations before the problem happened. Remember that, in some instances, someone trying to help you might want to replicate your problem on his own computer, or to open the application you are having problems with. Again, the problem you are having may turn out to be a symptom of something different; a complete description of the problem will often help identify those cases.

It seems to have occured after I installed VB6 with serveral third party OCX packages
can't be sure though, if this is the cause of the problem.. (I later uninstalled VB, but I'm sure most of these OCX packages are still there..)

is there anything I can post that can be of help? (hijack this log has nothing)
mbam -> no results from the quick scan

Thankyou.

sorry for double post, a google search for SHLWAPI.dll showed many people who had similar problems (explorer.exe high load) @ technet.microsoft
=)

(on a side issue, my laptop also cannot resume from sleep/hibernate, merely, 'crashing' (and then rebooting) straight after the initial screen)

A corrupt video driver plays tricks with standby/hibernate
Try replacing the driver

The problem still remains, I mean the explorer using huge amounts of CPU, even in Safe Mode :$

I'm wondering if I'm just paranoid that my computer's screwed ( and overtaken by viruses ) or is it just explorer running it's usual processes..
I'm strongly leaning to the screwed up side though  (possibly by my own bad configuration)

I do not see anything in the Process Explorer log that stands out
