Hi

When clicking on the results of a Google search I often (but not always) find myself being redirected to other search sites (such as Britannia search). A further sympton is that Outlook Express shuts down immediately on clicking on a hyperlink in an Outlook Express message.

I have tried several malware removal programs (Malwarebyte's, Spybot, PC Doctor) but none seems to detect and remove the infection.

I am also unable to run RootRepeal (doesn't get past the initializing box before hanging), hence the lack of a RootRepeal report attached to this post.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Richard

Hi Syler

Thanks for coming back to me; I know you guys are busy.

Over the past couple of weeks, I've had a couple more attempts to resolve the problem and I think it's now fixed. The procedure that seemed to work was as follows:

1. Complete scan using SUPERAntispyware
2. Quick scan using MBAM
3. Run ComboFix (but see warning below)
4. Run MGTools
5. Rescan with SUPERAntispyware
6. Toggle System Restore
7. Rescan with SUPERAntispyware

WARNING to others reading this thread. BleepingComputer does not recommend you run ComboFix unless specifically requested to do so. (I confess I felt like a naughty schoolboy doing this but was prepared to take the risk.)

Everything now seems to work and subsequent scans come up clean.

I'm happy for you to close this topic, or to post logs retained from the above procedure if you think it will help identify the original problem and be of use to you or others for the future.

All the best.

Richard
