Yes, I know. Very careless of me! I promise it won't happen again.

I was happily backing up photos onto a DVD via Picasa 3 with no problems. Then next day, I don't have a CD drive. Click on the desktop icon - shortcut to cd drive and up pops an error message "The drive or network connection that the shortcut "Shortcut to CD Drive.lnk" refers is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again."

Clicking on the My Computer icon on the desktop comes up with a list of drives, but drive H, the cd drive is missing.

Any suggestions as to how I can restore my cd drive?

Regards

Sorry. Spoke too soon! Clicking on the cd shortcut brings up a menu for the drive as before. Clicking on My Computer shows the H drive as a cd drive. So I've now found my missing CD drive, however, I cannot copy any files to the cd or playback cds or DVDs. I haven't installed any new programmes in the past few weeks. I had a another look at Microsoft Help & Support but haven't got anywhere.
