I am looking for a new laptop and would like your opinion. I have a great desktop at home with a quad core, so I got my super computer  . I am looking for one for school. I will not be playing games on it but just writing documents for school, browsing the internet and also watching movies. Anyone suggest a laptop for me that's around $900 or less with good battery life and fast enough to handle these simple tasks that I am looking for. I was looking at this one, what do you think:

Any others ones?

Thanks

That link doesn't work, but I've replaced it with http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...;Sku=A180-15901.

Funny, I was considering buying a laptop today...and then I realized that I don't need one and I consider it just a toy of sorts. A nice toy, but not a necessity.

That being the case, I see no reason not to get whatever you want, for whatever reason.

If I were a student today, I'd just get a netbook and use the other cash for other things during the school year/breaks.

The one thing I have to ask is why you would be willing to pay $800 for a laptop to watch movies on? I mean, isn't that what it comes down to?

I'm not a laptop fan, but I would think this one might make more sense...http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4545397&Sku=A180-16100 OR http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=1897

Or http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....00%20-%20%24500

Louis

I meant to add...if you intend to have this laptop more than a year and not be at the mercy of the computer gods when it goes down (all systems have problems, review some of our posts here of those who never expected such)...you probably need to think right now about 3 three things: 1) Warranty period/cost...2) Having capability of reinstalling O/S or repairing same with applicable CD...3) Learning how to systematically/routinely backup the system.

The reason why im willing to spend $800 is because my insurance it covering up to $900 on a new computer for me, so I dont pay a penny  . We had a big thunderstorm which knocked out half my homes appliances. My sister got a new computer and hers was dead and got a laptop. Now I would like one. If im getting it free then why not, right

Understood .

But...I'm trying to say...that particular laptop may not be the best value you can get for your bucks.

I don't know, as I said...I'm sort of anti-laptop, would much rather have a desktop. But I realize laptops are better for some situations.

But there are others here who are much more knowledgeable about such...and you should await some suggestions/opinions from them.

Not really the most laptopest person here, but with a $900 budget, this is what I would pick.

With that budget you should consider Lenovo, probably the best laptop company about! I always hear great things about them!

Just add some more RAM, put to 3GB put the CPU to T5870. And that itself can handle all the things you want! You can check the different models on the site and find something more to 900 if you like.
