I have a Compaq Presario 500 laptop. When trying to remove the battery in order to upgrade memory, the sliding battery release switch broke off.

I have tried to activate the slide without the switch , but it seems jammed and I dont want to force it.

My question is; can I remove the screws from the back of the computer case and will this release the plastic case back and release the battery. I am concerned that the release will cause more damage, I have access to anti static straps.

Anyway you can slide the release with a sharp knife point or a pick tool?
