I am not in the least bit computer savy. I can use the basic programs and surf the web. So, I desperately need your help.

My computer constantly has vanishing desktop icons, start button...in general...EVERYTHING on the desktop disappears. Task Manager will come up but will not "let" all programs run...often receive this "prompt"...

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Can get System Restore to come up and ..run? However, it will not restore. After closing System Restore however, the Desktop returns

Search engines constantly redirect to btcar.com...not that it ever loads... or goes to the "Internet Explorer Cannot Display This Page" page :flowers:

Tried some reccomended "scans" (probably made things worse), but these will only run for seconds...then close.

I believe I know what I have after reading other topics, and it appears that I need some individualized help...

I am not a complete moron, but I definitely am clueless here. Thank you for any help you can give. :trumpet:

Open Task Manager and in the Applications window, end all tasks. Then star a new task and type explorer.exe and see if that gives you you Desktop back
We need to run Root Repeal

We Need to check for Rootkits with RootRepeal
  • Download RootRepeal from the following location and save it to your desktop.
  • Extract RootRepeal.exe from the archive (If you did not use the "Direct Download" mirror).
  • Open Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Click the Posted Image tab.
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Check all seven boxes: Posted Image
  • Push Ok
  • Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and press Ok.
  • Allow RootRepeal to run a scan of your system. This may take some time.
  • Once the scan completes, push the Posted Image button. Save the log to your desktop, using a distinctive name, such as RootRepeal.txt. Include this report in your next reply, please.
If the scan does not complete, do another scan and just select Drivers to scan
