Upon boot up I now have two error messages
Error loading J:\Docume~1\Networ~1\protect.dll%1 is not a valid Win32 application
The application or DLL J:\Docume~1\Networ~1\protect.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
The can both be clicked thru once and don't seem to be causing any other problem.
Thought they might be important.
Also firefox some pages are displayed without background colors and some parts of the page cannot be seen vs Opera which still display normally.
Decided that since google was affected and slow to try searching for podmena with ask.com
and found a description of how I most likely got it ---- This parasite might be advertised as a video codec , in my case an upgrade for the flash player to enable viewing HD quality video ----- and a link to software that would hopefully remove it.
which recommended using spyware doctor I downloaded thru the google pack which let me get the version which actually removes things rather than just scans I think and could limit the items selected to just spyware doctor.
Downloaded and installed.
Ran scan on boot drive only with all scan types selected ( set manually) @ 35 mins long
My browsers are no longer redirected but the error messages are still there at boot up and firefox still doesn't display pages fully . The seem to load but whatever controls display elements isn't working properly.
Opera is okay and IE seems okay too.
I have looked at the log file and my guess is that items were found at startup by the memory check after the first scan by spyware doctor ( I was asked to reboot) and then they were removed/quarantined. I can post the log if you like (its quite long).
