I have configured CentOS5.2 as a web server, this all works fine, i have a website on it that displays weather from our instruments we have set up here, it needed the domain name in the hosts file and te ip to be 127.0.0.1.

I have now installed sendmail and am using it to send my backup reports with, i have a microsoft exchange server set up outside the DMZ that handles all our mail and a smoothwall in between.

I have been able to send my backup report to any email address that isn't on my domain but as mydomain.com is in the host file as 127.0.0.1, sendmail is trying to send my mail to itself instead of the exchange server.

I have looked into relaying but can't seem to gt my head around the configuration, i have opened port 25 on the smoothwall between the webserver and the exchange server, but can't get the config right to allow me to send email to anyone@mydomain.com

Does anyone have any ideas?

There's no place like 127.0.0.1
There are 10 types of people in the world, those that can read binary, and those who can't.
