 hello

new here & not that much of an advanced user - good with computers but not so good with anything like this :trumpet:

Downloaded Hijack This. Laptop with wireless connection with protected pw router and Windows XP SP 2 installed. Since doing reinstall of avast antivirus, and stopping boot scan, computer made strange beeping noise constantly, became unresponsive and screen just went black -- just got stuck it seemed. But computer was unprotected for short time. Sometimes, will right click an icon and the pop up menu will not show as usually should - will just show wallpaper background with little window outline that should be there. Sometimes, loading gets slow. Have probs on main PC but laptop really never had these problems - now seems to be doing same things as PC.

So, I got the hijack this log but have nooo idea what it means or what to do with it and was referred here for some help, if you wouldn't mind.

I am not sure if I am supposed to post the log on this post or not.

Can someone let me know please? And also how to get that log onto this site if that is what I should do - I tried saving it to hijack this folder or notepad -- don't know where it would be.

Thanks for any help you can offer!! :flowers: :inlove:

As no logs have been posted, I am shifting this topic from the specialized HiJack This forum to the Am I Infected forum.

==>PLEASE DO NOT NOW POST LOGS<== unless a log is specifically requested.

If I'd seen this sooner, I'd have moved it sooner. I was out of computer contact when you posted.

I believe the beeps you hear are BIOS beep codes. Every BIOS manufacturer as a certain code where a different sequence of beeps indicate certain hardware problems with the system
Does it still go black now? Is there any pattern to the beeps ie. 3 short one long, etc.?
Can you boot into safe mode?
