Ok I've recently noticed a lot of different things have been happening to my pc as of late. It started with my internet getting a tad slower nothing real noticeable but still slower. Then opening my programs would take some time like it would just lag a bit before opening and my games would all sit in the loading screen for a good 5 seconds before opening. I was also noticing this Microsoft program started running randomly and I have no idea what started it or what it was doing. In addition to that microsoft program, it would have the updater also running though most of the time it would be in 'not responding' status. Oh I should also add anytime I start firefox S&D resident shield would almost always show something in the firefox.exe though I never paid attention to it cause I thought it was cause I was clearing my cookies every time it closes. Oh and I should probably add my anti...programs: S&D, malwarebytes, and avg free.

Today I went to start Firefox and it starts doing a update from which i have no idea what it is my best guess would be system, but every time it finishes it say firefox can't install the update and i should restart. Basically from there if i exit or hit ok it auto reinstalls the update and fails again and continues to loop that. The only way to end it is to kill the process tree of which I happily oblige.

So eventually I restarted my pc thinking it would hopefully fix the problem cause I honestly hate internet explorer and only have it on my pc cause my college uses it as the preferred browser AND it has saved me when my pc is acting screwy like now that and I really dont wanna reformat have to find my cousins working xp cd and working serial code blah blah. Well when the system booted up it did it's usual thing except when I logged in my profile it took a lot longer than usual. When the thing finally went to the desktop screen some weird program was loading personalized settings from C:\program files\intel folder. It also came with the microsoft program running and it took me another startup to see how to kill that loading (cause it would never finish) and get my desktop back.

Well at this point I'm pretty sure I have some form of malware on my pc I just don't know what though my first goal was to get firefox working again (which I did this post proves it) I had to uninstall firefox and reinstall the 3.5.3 version on download.com I kept all my previous settings, addons, bookmarks etc. I then did a little research on said intel folder and found out that it could be a vuld-somthing virus. I just need a little help to make sure if it really is a virus of not.

The process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
  • Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note:
-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Note 2:
-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs
---------------------------
Be sure to re-enable your AV and malware scan tools if they were disabled

Ok I've done the scan but the startup problem still happens the only thing the scan picked up was 12 tracking cookies nothing else. I was wondering when I did that full scan in malwarebytes should I have kept the detected files (there were 4) and just saved the logfile and posted? Also did something happen to the website I'm missing all the borders.

Please download Dr.Web CureIt, the free version & save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:
  • Double-click on launch.exe to open the program and click Start. (There is no need to update if you just downloaded the most current version
  • Read the Virus check by DrWeb scanner prompt and click Ok where asked to Start scan now? Allow the setup.exe to load if asked by any of your security programs.
  • The Express scan will automatically begin.
(This is a short scan of files currently running in memory, boot sectors, and targeted folders).
  • If prompted to dowload the Full version Free Trial, ignore and click the X to close the window.
  • If an infected object is found, you will be prompted to move anything that cannot be cured. Click Yes to All.
  • When complete, click Select All, then choose Cure > Move incurable.
(This will move any detected files to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if they can't be cured)
  • Now put a check next to Complete scan to scan all local disks and removable media.
  • In the top menu, click Settings > Change settings, and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis" under the "Scanning" tab, then click Ok.
  • Back at the main window, click the green arrow "Start Scanning" button on the right under the Dr.Web logo.
  • When the scan is complete, a message will be displayed at the bottom indicating if any viruses were found.
  • Click "Yes to all" if asked to cure or move the file(s) and select "Move incurable".
  • In the top menu, click file and choose save report list.
  • Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
  • Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.
  • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)
--------------------------------

Also try Root Repeal

We Need to check for Rootkits with RootRepeal
  • Download RootRepeal from the following location and save it to your desktop.
  • Extract RootRepeal.exe from the archive (If you did not use the "Direct Download" mirror).
  • Open Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Click the Posted Image tab.
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Check all seven boxes: Posted Image
  • Push Ok
  • Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and press Ok.
  • Allow RootRepeal to run a scan of your system. This may take some time.
  • Once the scan completes, push the Posted Image button. Save the log to your desktop, using a distinctive name, such as RootRepeal.txt. Include this report in your next reply, please.

Ok we have problems  ...first I was able to do the scan with dr. web cureit but it wouldn't allow me to save the logfile (was grayed out). So I restarted and booted normally, as always I'm greeted with the C:\program files\intel\intelinf loading settings and the only way to kill that is to open the task manager and close the microsoft app that pops up (its not an official thing). Now I've noticed that after I close that a legion of microsoft and microsoft updates pops up and my computer slows to a crawl I assume this is the virus loading up (never does this in safe mode) so I close all those asap. I also noticed that in my process tab theres a false firefox.exe and explorer.exe I end both of those, oh and I have to end the explorer.exe first cause if I get the firefox.exe first it reloads the microsoft and microsoft update applications. Now the rootrepeal is a whole different story...I can open it up, setup the scans, but when it starts I get the blue screen and the pc restarts.

I also should apologize if my original description was kinda vague it had just started and it was the best way to describe it. Now I understand its pattern and how to keep it at bay (once I kill the explorer.exe and firefox.exe my pc seems to run normally with no further problems) so hopefully this will help you out some. Also sorry couldn't get your logfiles seems the programs just dont like me :flowers:

Let's try this one

We need to create an OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTListIt.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized
If it doesn't work, try renaming OTL.exe to something.scr

Now that you were able to produce a log you need to post it in our HJT forum:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/22/virus-trojan-spyware-and-malware-removal-logs/
Give a brief description and tell them that this log was all you could get to run successfully
The HJT team is extremely busy, so be patient and good luck

why won't my laptop work?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
Do not send me PMs with problems that should be posted in the forums. Keep it in the forums, so everyone benefits
