A few days ago several of my frequently-used desktop shortcuts stopped working. I got the windows flashlight and a msg saying something like "searching for chrome.exe."

When I highlighted the shortcut, instead of showing the expected patch, it said "chrome.exe" I then did a search and found chrome.exe-35931f6f.pf in C:\Windows\Prefetch.

None of my malware programs spotted this thing. I have AVG, Windows Defender, Webroot, and Malwarebyte. I added Superantispyware free, after a google search turned them up with a promise to remove chrome.exe. I ran it, and it did not.

I don't know if this is a fragment of Google Chrome which I uninstalled a couple weeks ago, or a bit of malware masquerading. It seems to be creating at least one problem, with my shortcuts, and may be doing more mischief.

What is it, and how do I get rid of it?
